Finally, I have pics of my room! I’m still not done fixing it up, but this is how it looks now:

My bed is off to the right, and so is my La-Z-Boy. Dead ahead are my TV, A/C, shelves, and basically most of my mess. To the left is my closet.

Yes, I need a mirror in my dressing area. Yes, I need to re-organize my closet. Yes, that is a smiley face tie on my tie rack. Yes, most of my shoes are black. Yes, I need a shoe rack. Yes, I know I’m getting irritating.

my messy shelves:

I have messy shelves… and I haven’t even put all of my stuff in. Some of it is still outside, in the desk that I decided I didn’t want in my room. Anyway, here are brief descriptions of what’s in the pictures above, from left to right:

More proof that I am a slob can be found on the couch - a heap of fabric also known as a comforter, bags I use often. My other stuff isn’t so messy - that’s a stuffed dragon, some hankerchiefs, a CD case, a pen, and some other stuff on the table. Of course, my La-Z-Boy stays clean.of course… my bed:

My bed has obviously been used recently. I have 6 pillows, not all of which I use. The small bench that goes with my bed is in the next picture.

On the table right beside my bed is my laptop, along with the cradle for my PDA and of course, my lamp. On the bench are some essential gadgets - remote controllers for my TV, my DVD player, and my A/C. My PDA and phone usually reside there too.

Above my bed is a cork board, which, unfortunately, I haven’t had time to fill yet. It used to be less bare, but it fell, and I only recently put it back up.

One thing my (missing) camera can’t capture is just how firm my new mattress is. It’s a lot stiffer than what I’ve gotten used to. Oh well… I’ll get used to it.

Regular readers of this blog, if they actually exist, know that I’ve complained about my room before. Rest assured that I will not be doing that now. Instead, I will be complaining about the fact that I don’t have a camera.

I don’t have a camera, and it sucks. I can’t take pictures of my room now, partly because I’m nowhere near my room, but mostly because I don’t have a camera! I want to post pictures of my bed, my La-Z-Boy, my new night tables or end tables, my couch, and basically everything in my room, but I can’t because I don’t have a camera!

I could go on ranting now… but I’ve got to get back to work.

Fact: I am irritated by those who can’t speak properly. No, I have nothing against people with speech impediments. I do, however, have a thing for proper grammar, pronunciation, spelling… basically, I get irritated with people ignore the rules of proper English. No, I don’t speak perfect English. No, I’m not an authority on the language. The thing is, I make an effort to speak (and write) well, and I expect others to try and do the same.

Another fact: the Philippines has been described by many as “the text capital of the world.” Being a resident of the said country, I really can’t say objectively whether or not this is true. Yes, I could try and do some research on this, but right now, I don’t particularly feel like it. I just want to rattle off some facts that relate to the point of this entry.

People here have learned to compress their texts (or text messages) into as few characters as possible in order to save on their monthly service fees, and also to minimize the strain on their fingers. One effect of this is that many texters (as those who use avail of Short Message Service are called) get so used to spelling in SMS shorthand that they somehow “forget” how to spell properly. In a country where English has already been mangled, butchered, and otherwise slaughtered for years, the arrival of SMS means an even greater detorioration in the quality of written English in the country.

Final fact for the entry: It seems not even the English are immune to the ill-effects of SMS shorthand. It’s true - so says the author of one of the lists I subscbribe to, This is True. See one of his articles below.

The point: I have no idea. I think the first fact is the point of this entry. I get irritated by the fact that many people, despite receiving a several years of schooling, cannot claim to be fluent in even a single language. However, the last fact gives me a little bit of consolation. I take solace in the idea I am not the only person surrounded by babbling fools. I am comforted by the fact that there are others who are probably just as irritated about bad language as I am. Why?

Shaudenfraude, I guess.
