Kultura stages Oscar Wilde’s

The Importance of Being Earnest
&
Ang Kahalagahan ng Pagiging Seryo

The Importance of Being Earnest / Ang Kahalagahan ng Pagiging SeryoOn the heels of its successful staging of Yazmina Reza’s Tony Award-winning play Art, Kultura presents another ground-breaking theatrical experience: a double production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. The original play in English will be presented alongside a new Filipino “transplantation” of the same play, entitled Ang Kahalagahan ng Pagiging Seryo. “Earnest” will have a 10-show run from Feb. 10 to 17, while “Seryo” will have a 10-show run from Feb. 21 to 28. Both plays are co-presented by JVC Everio Hard Disk Camcorder G Series.

Subtitled “A Trivial Comedy for Serious People,” The Importance of Being Earnest is Wilde’s most popular and successful work. It became an instant hit when it opened in London in 1895, and went to be generally acknowledged as one of the greatest comedies of all time. The play tells the story of two wealthy young gentlemen who escape responsibility whenever possible. Both masquerading under the name of “Ernest” (or “Sergio” in the Filipino version), they manage to win the love of their respective sweethearts, who both claim they could only love a man with that particular name. As expected, chaos breaks out when the truth is revealed, and the characters become entangled in a series of uproarious mistaken identities.

[note: updated 2007.01.30 11:25 a.m.]

I did it at the BlogCon, and I did it again at the Blog Parteeh - I hid behind a camera. The difference is this time, I posted pictures - lots of them.

You might be thinking: I mentioned this already before - why am I repeating myself? Well, I guess I still want to say a few more things about . No, my 44,000 words worth of images were not enough - I’ve got a few hundred other words to write.

My gallery is up and running! I can’t believe how easy it was to get it up and running - and how stupid I was not to see how. Markku pointed something out that, for some stupid reason, I never noticed. Well, now things are working just fine, and just in time too - ‘coz I’ve got pictures from Blog Parteeh ‘07.

The Steering Committee wants pictures? Well, I’ve got lots of them - 317 to be exact. Of course, not all of them are good, so I’ve trimmed them down to the best of the bunch. You want to see them? Just head over to the album on my gallery. Don’t worry - it’s not too hard to find. Right now, it’s the only album there.

Enjoy!

On the way out after the , a dozen or so attendees got into an elevator and went down to the ground floor. When they got there, the doors refused to open.

Pushing the buttons on the panel did nothing - as the air in the elevator car grew heavier, its occupants could only stare at their reflections on the unopened doors.

They pushed the emergency button, hoping for some help. Nobody replied. Nobody came to help them. Pretty soon, they started complaining about the lack of oxygen. After that, claustrophobia set in. More buttons were pressed.

After what seemed like hours, the doors finally opened. In unison, everybody took in a deep breath.

Who knew an elevator ride with a dozen or so bloggers could be so exciting?

Yes, I know it has only been two days since my last (and first) link love post, but can you stop me? No? Ok. Now we know who’s boss ’round here, I’m serving up another bunch of links. All the authors involved are tied together somehow. How? If you know them, you’ll know. If not, well, just read on. I’m sure you’ll find some clues somewhere. In any case, you might not find out the answer to the previous question, but you might have a few more blogs to add to your daily reads.

Forgive me if some of these links are old, but I’ve only recently discovered some of these blogs. Fear not though - at the time of this posting, these links are still on their respective blogs’ front pages. Enjoy!

For the nth time, I’m saying it - I’m not missing The Blog Parteeh! 2007. I’ve missed too many blogger events to let this one slip by. I’ve (1) blogged about it, (2) plugged the sponsors, (3) put in a Technorati tag for , and (4) posted my email address. These four steps, according to this post, should be enough to secure me an invite.

Now, you might be wondering - why am I so hell-bent on going to this gig?

10 Questions with Bulletproof Vest

I’ve now joined the ranks of Abe Olandres, Connie Veneracion, and Jessica Zafra. No, I don’t have the legions of readers they have, but we’ve all got one thing in common - we’ve been interviewed by Bulletproof Vest.

It seems I’m the latest victim of a series of ambush interviews perpetrated by Bulletproof Vest. I have no idea why he hit me with 10 questions (11 if you count the bonus), but he did - check out my answers here.

Don’t stop there though. The rest of the interviews - which I didn’t know about until I read his post - cracked me up. Yes, I’m throwing a whole lot of links his way - I’ve put seven here already. Whether I actually direct traffic his way is another issue, but that’s beside the point. His interviews, as well as the rest of his posts, are definitely worth reading.

Check him out at - yes, another link - http://blog.622design.com/
