I just installed a few new plugins and widgets, including Alex King’s Popularity Contest (download here) and justaddwater.dk’s Popular Posts Widget. The former is a Wordpress plugin that “keeps a count of your post, category and archive views, comments, trackbacks, etc. and uses them to determine which of your posts are most popular.” The latter is a widget that lets me instantly show the results of that contest on my sidebar.

As I’m writing this entry, my stats tell me that my top post is something about getting trapped at the Blog Parteeh. Isn’t that so last month? The buzz should now be about the upcoming Philippine Blog Awards, right?

Anyway, I’ll be keeping track of which posts you like from now on. I feel bad that I didn’t know about this plugin when I first started drivebyshooter.net, but I’m sure I can still get fairly accurate stats over the next few months.

AJDaddy’s GirlSafeGonzaloGaloshes

I’ve got a new album up: little ones. This is just the first of a series of albums - I’m trying to sort my favorite shots into different albums, and this was the first one that called out to me. There are only five shots now, but I’ll upload more soon. I promise.

San Beda College - NCAA Football Champions 2001-2007

I shot the San Beda College football team after they captured their sixth straight title in the National Collegiate Athletic Association of the Philippines. It wasn’t a difficult shoot - it was just really hot under the sun. My output was the banner you see above.

After shooting the team, I took portraits of the individual awardees as well as their coach. The results of that shoot are below.

Canon EOS-1D Mark IIICanon has a new flagship, and it looks poised to speed away from the rest of the competition. At 10 frames per second, the EOS-1D Mark III can fire off up to 110 large JPGs or 30 RAW files. This beats any other camera out today, including the Mark III’s older sibling the Mark II N, and the Nikon D2Hs.

The speed of the camera, however, isn’t what has the Mark III poised to leap ahead of the pack. It has a host of other features that make it stand out - at least in my opinion.

Canon EOS-1D Mark III

The rumors are true - the Mark III is coming. I’m a bit too sleepy now to write about everything in details. I’ll break everything down in another post, but for now, I’m going to bed. In the meantime, you can enjoy some excerpts from the press release.

Almost every creative person has, at some point, been asked to do work for free. I know I have. If you’re the creative type, there will always be people who will approach you and ask you to submit your work to them in exchange for experience, exposure, future jobs, and basically, nothing. People will ask you to give them your time and effort - and in return, they will give you a pat on the back. My advice to you - ask for payment. If you can’t get that, turn around and walk away.

Who am I to talk though? Let’s hear from other, more respectable types.

U-Turn: Red SlamA team of Integrated Marketing Communication students from the University of Asia and the Pacific took the AdSpeak 2007 competition by storm recently by taking the top three slots in the print ad category. The team, composed of IMC seniors Nicole Balaoing, Cis Ganuelas, Ralph Mariano, Pao Pielago, and Punky Taguines, received their awards at the AdSpeak student convention last Friday, February 16, at the Student Center Auditorium at Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

U-Turn: Drive Fast / Die FastThe competition, a joint effort of Letran’s Institute of Communication and the Advertising Board of the Philippines, sought the best public service announcements (PSAs) from delegates of the AdSpeak in three categories: print, radio, and television. In the print category, a total of 138 entries were in competition - 14 of which were from UA&P.

U-Turn: ScaryAdSpeak began in 2001 as seminar on the importance of values advertising for Communication Arts students of Letran. In 2003, it opened its doors to other colleges and universities in Metro Manila. Over the years, its delegates have benefited from the insights of various advertising practitioners, including Emily Abrera, Chairman Emeritus of McCann-Erickson; Minyong Ordonez, Founder and former Chairman of Basic Advertising; Yoly Ong, Group Chairperson of Campaigns and Grey; and Jimmy Santiago, Managing Partner of TBWA \ Santiago Mangada Puno. This year, the the AdBoard joined the fray, adding a screening of the 2006 Araw Values Awards and the AdSpeak competition to the programme.

In case you still haven’t figured out what the three images here are, here’s a clue - they’re winners. Entries from UA&P-IMC students took the top three spots, remember? Now, which image took which spot, I’ll leave that for you to figure out.
