The 2007 Philippine Blog Awards will be kicking off this afternoon. I, on the other hand, will be heading off this morning. I’m going on a road trip, but unlike many of you, I’m not heading to the RCBC Plaza Auditorium. Nope, I’m heading to Batangas.

Directions to the 2007 Philippine Blog AwardsI know where I’m going - and I don’t need a map to get there. I don’t need directions. Some of you, on the other hand, might still be lost. Fear not - the organizers of the Philippine Blog Awards have posted a comprehensive guide to getting to the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards.

Whether you’re driving or commuting, these directions will guide you there. Whether you’re coming from North, South, East, West, or whatever direction, this guide will get you there. You have to make sure, of course, that you have your event ticket. Otherwise, no matter where you come from, you’re not getting in.

I’d love to say I’ll see you there, but like I mentioned, I’ll be out of town. I hope you enjoy the awards though, and make sure you post some pictures.

sugar anyone? by Stitch@flickr.comIf researchers at St. Louis University in Missouri get their way, your electronic gadgets could be guzzling Coca-Cola for power.

They’ve given a whole new meaning to juicing up your devices by developing a battery that runs on sugar. Yup, you read that right - sugar. SLU researchers have “developed a fuel cell battery that runs on virtually any sugar source — from soft drinks to tree sap — and has the potential to operate three to four times longer on a single charge than conventional lithium ion batteries”

Does the dust removal feature on your DSLR really work?

Canon EOS Integrated Cleaning SystemDust removal seems to be the hottest new feature for DSLRs today. The problem is, while most other features are tested by review sites, most of them wouldn’t even dream of getting their test units dirty.

The good folk over at Pixinfo.com, however, had a different idea - they put the dust removal systems of four cameras to the test. They decided they see just how well the Canon EOS 400D, Olympus EVOLT E-300, Pentax K10D, and Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 cleaned themselves up.

The verdict?

the kit in the pouch in my everyday packOne of my images on Flickr has gotten a whole lot of attention lately. It has gotten almost 10,000 views in the past few days and I didn’t know why - that is, until now.

My image has been Dugg.

Well, maybe that isn’t entirely accurate. You could say it got dragged along when a story on lifehack.org got dugg.

Confused? So was I, but I finally got to the bottom of it. You can read the story below.

Performancing Metrics available for free*

Performancing Metrics vs. other analyzersI installed Performancing Metrics a few minutes ago and I can’t wait to see my stats. Yes, there are other stat trackers out there, but pmetrics is supposed to have a little something extra. If the chart off the right is any indication, it has a lot of tricks up its sleeve.

Yes, I’ve got other trackers installed here, but one thing I want to know is what pages people visit. Specifically, I want to be able to track any given visitor’s movement on my blog. Say, for example, a visitor visits 37 different pages, I’d like to know which 37 pages those are. I don’t want just the entry and exit pages - I want every page. This is supposed to give me that.

Why would I want to know that? I’d rather not explain. Let it suffice that this is supposed to give users “an unrivaled per visitor level of detail.”

This then begs the question: does it live up to its claim? On another note, I mentioned (in my title too) that Performancing Metrics is available for free. Is it really free?

Philippine photographers can now let our cameras go wild because the Joby Gorrilapod is now here! Yup, those little critters you see above have found a place in our little corner of the world. They’re still a bit shy though, so they’re not straying far from home. I haven’t seen any of them out in the open, but I know where to find them.

I write mostly about photography, a quite a bit about blogging, and a little about other related things so I know this item is way off topic. I don’t care though. This is, after all, still a personal blog.

If you don’t care about the things I want to have, feel free to ignore this post. Go on, move to the next post on the page. Otherwise, read on.

PortraitProfessional

Can you spot the differences between the two photos above?

If you can’t, here’s a clue - her eyes are larger and her skin smoother in the image on the right. She’s also got an extra glimmer in her eyes.

I could take credit for the retouching, but that’s not my style. Besides, I would really try to avoid cutting anyone’s face at the chin like that. Nope, the retouching was done by someone else. In fact, you can probably say it was done by something else entirely.
