Calling all shutterbugs!

I’ve learned of two new photography contests: one sponsored by Cebu Pacific Air’s Smile Magazine, and the other by The All-Pinoy GSM Forum. You want details, read on…
Smile Magazine, Cebu Pacific Air’s inflight publication is conducting a photo contest this month in celebration of the airline’s 11th anniversary! They are inviting every photography enthusiasts — amateurs and professionals — to send in their favorite destination photos, which can be a holiday snap, an amazing shot of a photographer’s hometown, or it could be inspired by having visitors themselves. Smile Magazine would love to see them all!
The competition will be judged by the Editor of Smile, Ink Publishing’s Picture Editor and Creative Director, as well as John Chua of PiPho (so, this has got to be legit).
The closing date is 31 March 2007 and the winning photos will be published in the June/July 2007 issue of Smile.
You want more details? Read Señor Enrique’s post here.
Wondering about the Pinoy GSM Forum contest? “If you are a Filipino, regardless you’re living or working in and out of the Philippines, who owns a camera mobile phone and love clicking your cellular phones for pictures, this contest is for you.”
The theme of your photo should be “The Filipino and the World on the Eyes of Today’s Mobile Phones.” The photo could be taken anywhere in the world, and should reflect the true essence of being “A Proud Pinoy”.
Details? Again, you can read Señor Enrique’s entry, or you can visit the official contest page here.
So whether you’ve got a EOS-1D Mark III or a Sharp J-SH04, start shooting. You never know where you could go with your next shot.

sounds like speculative work. boo.

Yes, it may be considered spec work, but as an amateur, it can also be considered simply an opportunity to show off a little.
I could snap off a shot or two for either of these contests, submit them, and forget about them. It doesn’t take quite as much effort to shoot some pics as it does to come up with designs or arrange some music. If I had to set up a whole shoot, I’d probably feel different.
I do get your point though, and I’ll be more careful about reading the fine print before posting about other contests.
As for remaining anonymous - that’s the way to be credible…
