A bunch of press releases have found their way to the front page of the Digital Photography Review. If you want, you can head over there to check them out, or you can view a recap here.
Olympus has been pretty busy lately. They’ve announced two news cameras, the E-410 and the E-510. Both have 10 megapixel Live MOS sensors - meaning they both have a live preview function. A quick review of their specifications, in fact, shows that they have many things in common: USB 2.0, 2.5″ LCD, Supersonic Wave Filter for dust protection, and new image processing engine, just to name a few.
What’s the difference between the two then? In two words, image stabilisation. The E-510 has this feature built in - giving its users the benefits of IS no matter what lens they ues.
They didn’t stop there though. They teased us with pictures of their new flagship model, the P-1. If that’s not enough, they’ve also thrown in a few new lenses.
Not to be outdone, Nikon has announced the D40X and the AF-S DX VR 55-200 mm F/4-5.6G IF-ED. Essentially an upgraded D40 on steroids, the D40X seems to geared to compete against Canon’s EOS 400D. As for the lens, I’m not too interested in it.
So, what does the X have over its older brother? It has a 10 megapixel sensor, and signifcant jump over the D40’s 6 megapixels. The X is also a bit faster, shooting at 3 fps, just a little over the 2.5 of the D40. Others are a lower base sensitivity (ISO 100 vs ISO 200) and the availability of ISO 200 when using the auto ISO option. You want to know more? Check out the hands-on preview.
