The perils of having several names

Going by more than one name is tricky - I should know. Some of you know me as Luis - that’s my real name. The thing is, most of you reading this probably know me as Elber. Don’t worry - that really is my name too. It’s my nickname, yes, but it’s still a name I go by.

Still some of you know me only by my handles: drivebyshooter, and for older followers of my blog (if there are any), driver ng bayan - so the names Luis and Elber don’t really mean anything to you. Also, handles don’t really count, right?

At this point, most of you are probably wondering what I’m trying to get at. Honestly, I’m not really sure either. So if it would please you, indulge me for a few moments.

I want to drop one of my names - at least while blogging. Why? I feel like it. As you read this, I’m sure it will be obvious which name I’m keeping.

[note: updated 2007.01.30 11:25 a.m.]

I did it at the BlogCon, and I did it again at the Blog Parteeh - I hid behind a camera. The difference is this time, I posted pictures - lots of them.

You might be thinking: I mentioned this already before - why am I repeating myself? Well, I guess I still want to say a few more things about . No, my 44,000 words worth of images were not enough - I’ve got a few hundred other words to write.

The BlogCon last September was, in Sasha’s words, Teh Shizzle. I agree - I was there. It wasn’t a very long affair, but some of us stuck around till the wee hours of the morning.

There was a Blogger Meetup right before Christmas. This extended over nine hours, but I didn’t even catch a minute of it. I found out about it on the day it happened, and I had made other plans for that day. Yes, I could have caught up after, but I was exhausted.

The holidays are now over, and coming up on the 27th is the 2007 Blog Parteeh! - I don’t intend to miss this one. I missed a meeting for the volunteer committee set last night, but then again, I haven’t had much time to help out. I do intend to show up at the party though, wherever it will be. My problem is I don’t know what my schedule is like yet. My other problem is that I’m bound to forget about it sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Please help me out. Remind me to go via comments, email, text, IM or any other way you can contact me. You can also opt to get me a Treo 650 or Treo 680 so I can organize my life, but the former options are cheaper.

See you!

I’ve been tagged by Rico to reveal five of my secrets. I’ve thought long and hard about this, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t have any real secrets. Almost anybody I know will be aware of at least one of the items listed below.

Please bear with the mess. This page is still (and will probably always be) under construction.

Dove Campaign for Real Beauty - EvolutionI saw this a few weeks ago while browsing through Rainy Day Magazine. It seems some of them “wrote the image-processing algorithms for the first commerical image-editing software for the Mac…way back in 1988.” Called PhotoMac, it was “the first color image manipulation program for the Macintosh” - yes, it came before Photoshop. Since then, the world has never seemed the same.

Dove Campaign for Real BeautyWe all know, or at least believe that the images we see in magazines have been retouched - and that’s understating it. Well, even I was surprised at the extent of editing these images go through. Yes, they are supermodels - but it seems, according to Dove, “even supermodels don’t look like supermodels.

edit 12.05.2005: My friend Rico also blogged about this yesterday, but he focused on the success of the campaign. He also posted links to some YouTube videos showing a couple of Dove films. We’ve approached the issue from different angles, but I can still say that great minds think alike, right?
