Going by more than one name is tricky - I should know. Some of you know me as Luis - that’s my real name. The thing is, most of you reading this probably know me as Elber. Don’t worry - that really is my name too. It’s my nickname, yes, but it’s still a name I go by.
Still some of you know me only by my handles: drivebyshooter, and for older followers of my blog (if there are any), driver ng bayan - so the names Luis and Elber don’t really mean anything to you. Also, handles don’t really count, right?
At this point, most of you are probably wondering what I’m trying to get at. Honestly, I’m not really sure either. So if it would please you, indulge me for a few moments.
I want to drop one of my names - at least while blogging. Why? I feel like it. As you read this, I’m sure it will be obvious which name I’m keeping.

I’ve learned of two new photography contests: one sponsored by Cebu Pacific Air’s Smile Magazine, and the other by The All-Pinoy GSM Forum. You want details, read on…

Almost every creative person has, at some point, been asked to do work for free. I know I have. If you’re the creative type, there will always be people who will approach you and ask you to submit your work to them in exchange for experience, exposure, future jobs, and basically, nothing. People will ask you to give them your time and effort - and in return, they will give you a pat on the back. My advice to you - ask for payment. If you can’t get that, turn around and walk away.
Who am I to talk though? Let’s hear from other, more respectable types.

I was going through my site stats when I noticed the top keywords leading to my site. The keywords “blindfold and alone” and “dep sport sculpting clay” shared the top spot, while “dep sculpting clay” was a notch below. Yes, “drivebyshooter” and “drive by shooter” were still in the top five, but I didn’t expect the other keywords to occupy the top three slots.

The technology that allows us to copy-and-paste with ease is also making intellectual property theft the norm.
It started in Kuro.ph when one user noted that certain posts were lifted verbatim from The Radical Chef without citing the author. A number of other posts followed, including this one from 3bbb: “pag visit mo mag-post ka na rin para hindi nako-kopya!”
I had to react…
That’s not the point. The point is that some members of kuro.ph lifted text from another site and posted it verbatim here without citing their sources. It is not the responsibility of conniev, or any other author for that matter, to go search every single page on the net and check whether their words, pictures, or any other work is being used elsewhere. That is an impossible task. It is the responsibility of those who “borrow” these things to give due credit to the author… and that’s just the least you can do.On to specifics… conniev has posted on The Radical Chef a Creative Commons License. Under this license, others are free “to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work” as long as they “give the original author credit.” Attribution - a simple acknowledgement of the fact that somebody else came up with the recipe - that was all that was needed to prevent this whole mess. A simple note saying “originally posted on _____” probably would have been fine… but no. There simply was no acknowledgement. Now, unfortunately, it is a case of intellectual property theft.
Now, I leave it up to the board moderators to figure out what to do. Me, I’m just voicing out my opinion… that’s what these boards are for, right?
What’s your opinion?
