Pauline Gevaña, 10 years old, has to undergo chemotherapy this June and would appreciate any help, financial or otherwise. This is her story, taken from my sister’s blog.
Back in August 1999 when she was 3, Pauline was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Her mother, Yolly, had to give up her job to be able to give her the full attention she needed. At the height of the medical crisis, her father left and ran to the arms of another woman. For the past 7 years, Pauline’s life has been a series of trips to and from their home in Sta. Rosa and the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) in Quezon City for testing, medication, therapy, and sometimes hospital confinement. Her hair had fallen off and grown back many times; strangers would stare or say insensitive comments. Her treatments sometimes made her weak, disabling her from playing with her friends from the neighborhood. Her frequent absences have forced her to miss school, and even drop out many times.

In celebration of the month that was, I’m sharing with you a picture that would have been perfect for an April Fool’s day joke. I say would have been because this picture isn’t part of a prank - it’s real.

I don’t know what I would give right now to be lying on the sand. I don’t particularly care if I’m in Boracay or in Batangas - the point is that I’m on the beach.
I’m envious of that Coppertone bottle in the image on the right - it’s only a picture, but at least it’s surrounded by surf, sand, sun, and sky. Me, I’ve only got the latter two.
I want to bask in the sun and go swimming. Yes, I could do that in a pool, but I want something more than that. I want to feel the sea breeze kissing my face. I want to feel the waves lapping at my toes. I want to feel the sand swallowing my feet.
Like I said, I don’t care if I’m in Batangas or Guimaras, Caticlan or Bantayan - I just want to be at the beach.

Going by more than one name is tricky - I should know. Some of you know me as Luis - that’s my real name. The thing is, most of you reading this probably know me as Elber. Don’t worry - that really is my name too. It’s my nickname, yes, but it’s still a name I go by.
Still some of you know me only by my handles: drivebyshooter, and for older followers of my blog (if there are any), driver ng bayan - so the names Luis and Elber don’t really mean anything to you. Also, handles don’t really count, right?
At this point, most of you are probably wondering what I’m trying to get at. Honestly, I’m not really sure either. So if it would please you, indulge me for a few moments.
I want to drop one of my names - at least while blogging. Why? I feel like it. As you read this, I’m sure it will be obvious which name I’m keeping.

I’ve got a new album up: little ones. This is just the first of a series of albums - I’m trying to sort my favorite shots into different albums, and this was the first one that called out to me. There are only five shots now, but I’ll upload more soon. I promise.
